‘Wellesley Girl’ is a play by Brendan Pelsue, produced at Auburn University and directed by Scott Phillips. The play is set over 400 years in the future. All that remains of a post-apocalyptic United States are a handful of walled-in towns in central Massachusetts. The surviving population clings to the consitution, politics, and grandstanding even as the population dwindles do hundreds of people. In this design, essential but minimal set props track on and off stage. Projected scenery completes the composition with two symbolic elements: the walls around the town, and the world beyond them. The design did not discriminate between the behavior of physical scenery vs. projected scenery. The rule was for all visible elements to move on and off like physical, theatrical set pieces. Director Scott Phillips asked for the act, scene, and location of each setting to appear in the projections. The captions were treated as graffiti on the stockade wall. These video clips were taken at first dress rehearsal. Some portions of the scenery, such as the building on the right here, are still being completed.
