Reckless is a whirlwind show with a constant stream of unexpected twists. This production was in our larger proscenium theatre. To support the intimacy of the show, the set design places the action extremely far downstage. Large shodowbox walls dispense props and furniture on demand, as well as holding a set of projection screens. The screens are used individually or together to create various settings and effects. Everything is designed with the intention of moving very very quickly from moment to moment while providing compelling visual effects.
This design incorporates elements from an earlier design of mine from 1993. It accomodates a proscenium space here, and incorporates projected media extensively. Though the space is similarly presentational and flexible, it is less iconic. It is more tensile and emotional than the Ohio State production, and less cerebral.
